It was in an old industrial cement shed in the spring of 2022 that the first pint of Flying Trunk was brewed. Since this momentous occasion we’ve dared to believe that we might just pull this off.
We’re small (technically nano) but this is an advantage over the big guns, we can be a bit more sprightly.
Small batch brewing gives us room to experiment, we are all about simple, quality beer focused on flavour. Using the best ingredients and absolutely no adjuncts each beer whether cask, keg, bottle, or can is conditioned traditionally (CAMRA One to Try). This allows the yeast still in suspension to gobble up every last morsel of sugar to create the finest C02 bubbles...the perfect start to a good pint.
I’m Rich, the one on the left, a massive beer nerd and very keen, possibly obsessive, home brewer. On the right is my wife Kate, a creative whizz and unexpected Brewster. In this shot you find us enjoying our very first pub brought pint which explains the slightly stunned, excited, and as it was Past Your Bedtime, little rosy cheeked faces.
Our story began during covid with the loss of our much-loved teardrop caravan pizza business (The Tinderbox). I decided it was time to hone my brewing skills, so it was based in our tiny kitchen that wonderful things started to happen. After a series of truly bizarre but fortunate events, we found ourselves the owners of a nano brewery we decided to call The Flying Trunk.
We have been incredibly lucky to receive fantastic local support from the likes of The Engine Room, Cobbetts, The Evening Star as well as all their patrons. Our first beers hit the pumps late 2022 and won our first CAMRA Gold for Past Your Bedtime at our maiden beer festival in March 23.
This is just the beginning of our story; we plan to grow naturally, sharing our beer with as many people as possible without ever compromising on the quality or flavour of our brews...after all, we drink it too!
